A Poem For Beginning by *lecanis:iconlecanis:

One must begin simply
or what is created
will be
unbelievable
unreliable
unreal
whether truth or fiction
one must begin simply
must find the courage
to simply
Begin.

I posted this poem because my association with deviantart has been largely through a fan of my fanfiction "Simply Begin" and this poem was where I got the title of that story.

I'm thinking about putting some more of my poetry here, and perhaps some of my fanfiction and such, but since my fanfiction is already being posted so many other places... eh.

Anyway, this poem was first written for the first page of a journal.

that's a beautiful poem, lecanis! i immediately have to think of my work, the real-life work i have to do for university... but in a positive way, and that makes all the difference. i hope i'll see more of your original work :)

Thank you! :)

I'm glad you like! I love posting my original work, but often don't seem to find enough interest.

it's much harder to relate to original work than ff, since in ff everyone who's read the canon has the same background to the story. and poetry on the web... i think that's even harder to relate to than an actual book of poetry.

You've hit the nail on the head here. FF is easy to relate to because you already have the background, you're already wrapped up in the story or you wouldn't be reading fanfiction for it.

And poetry is much better in an actual book, which is why I like to publish things, but I got lazy about submitting oh... about 10 years ago, after having somewhere between 50 and 100 poems published in magazines. My poetry always gets a good reception online among people who already know me (on forums and such) but just out there somewhere where no one knows you... it doesn't often make an impact. I mainly put this one on DA so you could see it. :P
